About Me...
My Journey with Art...
I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Interior Design from what is now Lincolnshire University in 2000. For four years, I pursued my dream of becoming a designer.
My passion was designing show homes, and I launched a small business called FI Design, where I quickly found my niche in home staging. As a 'Home Stagers' designer in the North West of England, I successfully helped numerous clients sell their properties. My work was featured in several magazines and local newspapers, and I even teamed up with a local estate agent with ambitions to take over the property staging world.
During that time, I exhibited at the Ideal Home Show at Earls Court and participated in an interior design competition at Tatton Park. However, I soon realised that being an interior designer required more than just creative talent; it also demanded strong sales skills. As a twenty-something, I found the sales aspect overwhelming, and in 2004, I decided to step away from my design career to focus on becoming a mum.
This shift led me to a new path in the NHS, where I took on various roles, often working in schools on health initiatives. In 2011, I began working as a Cover Supervisor in a secondary school, and I was fortunate enough to cover a term of art as an unqualified teacher. This experience reignited my passion for art once again!
By 2015, I had relocated to Weston-Super-Mare and welcomed my second son. In 2017, I felt a strong calling to pursue a career as an art teacher. Determined to follow my passion, I returned to college and spent two years studying for the UAL Foundation Diploma in Art. The top left photo shows me, totally focused, up a ladder, working on my final piece installation. I was thrilled to graduate with two distinctions: one for Level 2 and another for Level 3/4..
In 2019, I embarked on my teacher training journey and graduated with a distinction in PGCE Art and Design, along with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). I went on to teach KS3 art, as well as A-Level Art and the Cambridge Technical in Art and Design at KS5. Teaching at a brand-new school offered me unique experiences and responsibilities, including the challenge of transitioning to online teaching during the pandemic.
In 2022, I made a bold move to France with my family and established The Evelyna Rose, named in memory of my beloved nan. I initially focused on designing digital planners for teachers, but soon realised how much I missed teaching art and working with students! This led to the creation of Arts Instruct as a branch of The Evelyna Rose. Since then, I’ve been passionately developing and teaching art to children and adults online, sharing my love for creativity across borders.
As an art teacher and practicing tutor, I am a member of NSEAD (National Society for Education in Art and Design) as well as, The Tutors Association. I also keep up my own practice by participating in, The SketchBook Circle.
